In April, we had an optional challenge with the color Green. The challenge was to use Green symbolically.  We learned that Green symbolizes growth, freshness, hope and fertility.  It is associated with safety and harmony.  It has a healing quality and is the most calming color to the human eye.   Green also stands for new growth and rebirth, which is common in Spring - and hence, why we photographed it in April.  But green can also take on a different meaning and can symbolize envy and jealousy.

With that in mind, photographers set out to use Green in a way that had a deeper meaning.

Green Symbolism Elizabeth Partin

Elizabeth found this dewy grass in a local park and laid down in the grass to get this image.  It speaks freshness and rebirth.

Green Symbolism Michelle Wright

Michelle found a bug fight and used this fight to capture jealousy.

"O, beware, my lord, of jealousy;
It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock
The meat that it feeds on..."

She gets extra points for actually keeping the poem in April's blog post (located here)  in mind when she was out and about!  That was not an easy task and she nailed it!

Green Symbolism Mary Johnson

by Mary Johnson.
Mary C Johnson Photography.

Mary used green here in an ironic way.  Green symbolizes natural, and things good for the environment, and yet this green truck is a truck that burns natural gas.  The irony is definitely apparent and is strengthened thru the use of green on the truck.

It was a fun month seeing everyone get this creative!
