Her hat caught my attention that morning. I loved the color and the curve, reminding me of the pelicans on the beach. After I took this image, she walked up to me and we began to talk... for almost an hour! I missed the sunrise, but I learned that she was born and raised in Minnesota, and she hated the cold winters so much, that back in the 1960s, she answered an ad in the local Minnesota newspaper placed by someone in Florida who wanted to house swap. She called the number, and the rest is history. She doesn't regret any of it, and she for sure doesn't miss those "long dark endless winters" as she called them. And the hat? From a local thrift shop. It's as if she read my mind and offered up the info all on her own.
